Benefits to being Annexed by the City of Cedar Park

There are many benefits to District residents of being annexed into the City of Cedar Park. Following is a list of some of the municipal services that will be provided to District residents upon annexation:

The City will continue to provide many services currently being provided by the District in a seamless transition. For example, the City already provides water and wastewater service to District residents through an agreement with the District. Fire protection service will not change, as the City already provides fire protection to District residents through an agreement with the District. Garbage services and drainage services should be similar (though we will have to change garbage service providers).

Other services that the City will provide should be an improvement over that currently being provided to District residents. For example, Travis and Williamson Counties currently provide street maintenance. The City conducts an annual evaluation of its streets and this will likely be an improvement over the Counties' maintenance program. The City proposes to provide 24 hour patrol of neighborhoods within the District after annexation. Under this proposal, police protection services should improve over what the Counties currently provide District residents.

Annexation of the District also makes sense given that District residents enjoy the benefits of living adjacent to the City in use of area shopping, medical centers, libraries, entertainment venues, and City parks, among other things. Annexation will allow District residents a greater voice in City government through participation in municipal elections.
